Cobra Sr900 Scanner Manual

I had a friend get me interested in converting my old photos, negatives and slides to digital. The old material breaks down over time, and it takes alot of storage space. My friend used a scanner, but when I checked I found there were devices that would also copy negatives and slides. I now find that several friends are either getting into this or looking into it. There are several brands to chose from, and all claim to be the best. Amazon provides user feedback which is invaluable at evaluating these devices. Issues with other brands were bright spots on negatives and slides, having to take apart slide holders to copy them and some brands were not compatable with Kodak and other slide brands. Cobra does not appear to have any of these problems. It comes with 3 photo frames. 3 x 5, 4 x 6, and 5 x 7. You slide the print in, insert the frame and push the button. Couldn't be much simpler. Slides go in another frame, just as they are, in thier cardboard holder. There is another frame for negatives. As with most of these devices, they are pretty much designed for 35mm format, although if the print fits the frame, any format can be copied. Copies are stored on a SD memory card and can then be transferred to any PC. Be mindful that all cameras produce slightly different results, and so do photo processors. What this means is that you will most likely need to run them through a photo editor to correct for brightness, color, contrast etc. Free downloads of editors are available on the internet (CNET, PC World). I haven't found any CONS for this unit yet. The price was in the range for anyone's wallet.
Jan 2011 - CONS: after additional use of the unit, I am experiencing flare ups on glossy photos. This also occurs if the negative is placed in wrong. It appears to be similar to flashback (when the camera flash bounces off a shiney surface). Matte finished photos did not exhibit this problem. Reviews indicate this is a problem with most of this type scanners. Instuctions are clear, but short. They could use more comprehensive instructions. It also seems to have conflicts with some SD cards. I had a 16GB SD had which worked fine at first, but then would not store any files. A smaller 2 GB fast card has produced no issues.
