How to download photos for Kodak digital camera

(9 posts)

I have a Kodak DC4800 camera which I have been using for the last 4 years. Its in perfect working order and takes great pics. I recently had to perform a Windows reinstallation, and now I find that the camera is no longer supported through the new Easyshare software. I have contacted Kodak but find that there is no back up available for this make of camera. I am wondering if anyone knows how I can download my photos for the camera onto my pc. I need to download the pics for my business, and cannot afford to buy another camera. Any help or advice would be gratefully accepted.
Many thanks in advance

What OS do you have?
Also how do you connect the camera to the computer?

Hi

I connect through a cable via an external hub. Forgive my ignorance but what is an OS?

Thansk a lot

OS stands for Operating System.
The short answer is that is what Windows is.
The long answer is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system
I'll rephrase my question. Do you use Windows XP or Windows Vista?

As for the Kodak software for your camera model from a quick search it appears the page for Windows XP drivers is at http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn006609.jhtml?operatingSystem=windows_xp&downloadLanguage=en
and the page for Windows Vista drivers is at http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn006609.jhtml?operatingSystem=windows_vista&downloadLanguage=en

Hi
Thanks for the info above. The advice on the site doesn't seem to make sense. The following instructions are ok!

1
Determine your Current Firmware Version
Turn the Mode dial on the camera to Setup.
Select About...
Press the Select button. The firmware version appears on the camera screen.

But then the following instructions are somewhat confusing:-

2
Download and Extract the Firmware File
Click Continue.
Download the file to your computer.
Double-click the .exe file to start the upgrade. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I've downloaded the file, but my pc states that windows cannot open this file. Any ideas? Thanks again

What is the 3 letter extension that 'windows cannot open'? Is it .zip?

Please answer the OS question.

Download Kodak Pictures To Pc

Hi nongeekman, doesn't this camara store the pictures on a card (I think it has a Compact Flash card). I would think it would be easiest to take the card out of the camera and stick it into the card reader slot of your PC. Then you can import the pictures from there. Click 'Import Pictures using Windows' when the little Autoplay window comes up. It imports the pictures into your 'Pictures' folder. After import it will usually be the first subfolder in your 'Pictures' folder and it is dated with todays date.

Apologies for not answering your question. The OS is Windows XP. And the letter extension is fw!

Someone else had also given me the same advice about using the flash card in the camera to download pics. i think thats going to be the easiest route. I'll keep you informed.

Thanks to both of you.

On that page there are two main downloads.
At the top there is 'KODAK EASYSHARE Software', that should be the driver you need.
The one that says Firmware is for updating the OS type software that runs on your camera.

The Easyshare software on the page I linked to above should be a version that works with your camera.
I'm not sure but it would be unusual for the software linked from the camera support page to not be the correct one.
